Fujitsu selects LSI’s rack-optimized, high-density SAS drive enclosure for its high-end servers

Fujitsu selected LSI’s Engenio DE5300 high-density, 2.5-inch 3Gb/s SAS drive enclosure for its high-end server lines. The small form factor, ultra-low power 2.5-inch SAS drives housed within the DE5300 will allow Fujitsu server customers faced with IT space constraints and increasing energy costs to utilize nearly 50 percent less power than 3.5-inch drives, and enable nearly twice as many drives to reside in the same 2U of rack space. In conjunction with LSI SAS host bus adapters (HBAs), the DE5300 also provides a cost-effective solution for growing businesses to transition to external storage for improved performance and scalability in a small physical footprint.

“The selection of the DE5300 SAS enclosure continues our overall transition from SCSI to SAS-based storage and expands our long-standing relationship with LSI,” said Mr. Kenichi Sakai, general manager, Mission Critical Server Division, Enterprise Server System Unit, Fujitsu. “As power consumption and physical footprint continue to be hot-button IT issues driving the data storage market, we’re providing customers with a solution to tackle these challenges head-on.”

The DE5300 is a 2U, 19-inch rack-mountable drive enclosure that supports up to twenty 2.5-inch SAS drives for a maximum capacity of 2.9 TB in a single enclosure. The dense drive accommodation supports intense random I/O applications making it an ideal solution for a wide range of computing environments, from databases and email to streaming video and online transaction processing.
