Vivisimo Inc. launched on Monday Velocity Enterprise Search Platform 7.5, which offers enhancements in extensibility, scalability and performance. The new solution is available as a standalone search solution or as an embedded OEM (original equipment manufacturer) version for partner applications.
Velocity 7.5 enhances the power of Velocity for partners and customers looking to build and deliver search centric applications. By building out and expanding the open API layer, Vivisimo is providing customers, OEMs, partners and systems integrators access to the entire Velocity architecture and its feature set. These organizations can leverage the search development platform to add value to existing applications and develop new solutions that take advantage of the volumes of information assets within every enterprise.
Velocity 7.5 offers a set of SOAP/REST APIs for embedding the Velocity search engine, as well as building new applications to take advantage of the search development platform. Archiving and storage applications require data retrieval solutions that can support searching 1 billion emails on a single server. Velocity 7.5 introduces a new approach to scalability focused on utilizing the given RAM on a single machine. With on-demand index management, Velocity can intelligently swap collections in and out of memory to ensure the maximum amount of content can be stored on a single server to deliver extreme scalability.
Velocity 7.5 also offers improved performance through triple data compression. When embedding search into a third party application, it is critical to have a small index size in order to reduce the overall footprint and hardware requirement, resulting in greater efficiencies and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). Velocity 7.5's hybrid approach to data compression reduces overall index to 5 to 10 percent of the original data size without loss of functionality.
Within eDiscovery and compliance applications, Velocity 7.5 also requires that the user can confirm each file that is or is not part of the searchable index to confirm complete collections of data. With Velocity 7.5, new traceable accuracy metrics can accurately prove and defend that all data has been crawled and identify any documents that were not indexed due to corrupt file types.
"Earlier this year we announced a deliberate strategic plan to unleash the power of Velocity as a development platform for partners and customers," said John M. Kealey, CEO of Vivisimo. "Today, through the release of Velocity 7.5, we've come full circle on delivering on that strategy."
Velocity 7.5 also provides partners and direct customers with a search development platform that provides extreme scale and a minimal footprint, resulting in lower total cost of ownership (TCO). Through a set of new features in scalability, organizations facing increasing regulatory requirements are able to search and find information across large amounts of data stored in archives and backup systems.
"The need for search solutions will increase as the amount of data generated and retained within enterprises continues to grow exponentially," states Brian Babineau, senior analyst for Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG). "With this escalating demand, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and System Integrators (SIs) must build applications and comprehensive solutions that incorporate advanced data retrieval capabilities."
"ASG customers trust us to deliver the best solutions on the market for their long-term archiving and content management needs," said Theresa Kollath, senior director of product management at ASG. "With the powerful search capabilities Velocity brings to ASG-ViewDirect E-mail Manager, we're confident that we can do the same for their discovery and compliance initiatives."
