Certeon makes S-Series available for EMC Documentum 6

Nov 12 -- Certeon Inc. announced last week that its S-Series Application Acceleration Appliances, previously accredited as "Designed for EMC Documentum, " have been validated on the next-generation EMC Documentum 6 enterprise content management (ECM) platform. The validation demonstrates that S-Series has met a comprehensive set of criteria for " testing and quality integration" with the next-generation Documentum 6 platform, Certeon said.

EMC made available the Documentum 6 ECM platform in July of this year. Through participation in the 'Designed for EMC' program, Certeon received early access to the Documentum 6 software to test the S-Series for integration with the next-generation platform, Certeon said. As a result of rigorous testing and full integration, the S-Series has been deemed "Documentum 6 Ready". This designation is intended to give joint customers confidence that the S-Series meets high standards for architectural compliance with Documentum 6 and is capable of providing a reliable integration, the company said.

Certeon's S-Series Application Acceleration Appliances provide users with application intelligent networking to deliver application acceleration, security and scalability from the desktop to the data center, the company said. Certeon 's patent-pending S-Series appliances accelerate all WAN (wide area network) traffic and are optimized for distributed content delivery and collaboration applications, such as enterprise content management, work flow and process management, Web portals and search.

S-Series appliances securely accelerate encrypted traffic (SSL) with the same performance improvements as unencrypted traffic, Certeon said. The appliances minimize network traffic to improve application response times, while maintaining end-to-end security. Founded in 2003, Certeon is a private company, headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts with European offices in The Netherlands, Certeon added.

Certeon's S-Series appliances are designed to extend the Documentum 6 content management platform to provide more than 90 percent improvement in end-user application response times in the remote access of unencrypted and encrypted files over the WAN, Certeon said.

Tests performed by EMC and Certeon suggested that the S-Series optimizes Documentum 6 application and file access through the WAN, Certeon said. As tested, the S-Series off-loaded the compression overhead from the Documentum 6 server, potentially enabling users to realize further performance gains when remotely accessing applications and files, including encrypted documents that are being transported over the network through the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol, the company said. The S-Series testing also indicated that Documentum 6 customers could turbo-charge the access of all files over the WAN, but in particular, speed secure file access between the data center and branch offices without compromising performance or data integrity, it added.

EMC's position in ECM is further strengthened by the support of partners such as Certeon, EMC of Hopkinton, Massachusetts said. The 'Designed for EMC' partner developer program enables partners to deliver better offerings that fully leverage the new features and functionality of the next-generation EMC Documentum platform, the company said. Customers have demonstrated their trust in the EMC Documentum platform to manage their most critical and strategic information. The 'Designed for EMC' programs enable EMC to continually earn that trust, while supporting offerings like Certeon 's S-Series, EMC added.

Customers look for improved ease of use, responsiveness and security when accessing critical corporate information, Certeon said. In particular, slow application response times over the WAN can undermine employee productivity, the company said. Working with the Documentum platform has enabled Certeon to provide customers with a solution that not only speeds the remote access of all ECM traffic, but also accelerates mission critical application traffic securely, the company said.

Certeon's S-Series received the "EMC Documentum 6 Ready" designation as a result of participation in the Designed for EMC programs, which help ISVs (independent software vendors), VSPs and SIs (system integrators) design, develop and go to market with successful offerings based on the EMC Documentum platform, Certeon said. As a member, Certeon received specialized design consultation and guidance, along with access to dedicated content management technical resources and marketing support, the company said.
