Aug 07 -- GroundWork Open Source, Inc, upgrades its support for monitoring and management for Virtualized Environments and for Java applications and services within GroundWork Monitor Professional -- GroundWork’s enterprise-class system and network monitoring and management solution.

GroundWork Monitor Professional now offers centralized monitoring and control of both virtual and physical components from a single dashboard for post-deployment support.

GroundWork’s newly released Java Virtual Machine (JVM) plug-in supports monitoring Java-based applications by querying the attributes of application containers such as Tomcat or Jetty -- giving deeper visibility to the applications running within the Java environment. It uses the Java Management Extensions (JMX) that are built into Java version 1.5 and above to extract monitoring information about the JVM.

GroundWork’s enhanced virtualization functionality and support for Java-based applications and services were incubated in the recently announced GroundWork Factory, a central resource for information, expertise, and reusable extensions for Groundwork’s partners, customers and the community.

“Responding quickly to customer needs has always been a high priority for GroundWork,” said Ranga Rangachari, CEO of GroundWork Open Source. “GroundWork Factory makes it possible for us to do so. The increased support for VMware environments and for Apache Tomcat and other JVMs is just one example -- the first of many to come from GroundWork Factory -- of the way we demonstrate our commitment to our customers.”

These latest enhancements in GroundWork Monitor Professional are geared toward helping system administrators more easily monitor virtualized environments and Java-based applications and services on their networks and obtain critical performance and availability metrics. They also provide administrators with quick and easy access to data that is managed by virtualization software systems.

GroundWork VM monitoring coverage includes the virtual machine host platform, guest virtual machines, as well as the applications and services that are deployed on them. In addition, the JVM monitoring provides the ability to query a JVM for attributes of the application’s environment. The interdependencies among the infrastructure components are also modeled, providing an integrated view of the entire network, including both the physical and virtualized components, on a single plane of glass.
