InCore Bank deploys NetApp storage solutions

Feb 27 -- Network Appliance (NetApp) Inc. has announced that InCore Transaction Bank of Switzerland has selected NetApp’s unified storage solutions for its transaction-intensive data service and data protection needs. The Swiss Bank selected NetApp storage solutions to reduce operational costs and keep customer data secure and available, NetApp said last week.

InCore Bank offers services such as brokerage, payment transactions, and reporting for small and midsize private and retail banks in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. NetApp fabric-attached storage (FAS) systems provide InCore Bank with optimal storage resource utilization, streamlined administration management, and consolidated and simplified data protection operations, NetApp of Sunnyvale, California said.

Outsourcing is becoming important in Switzerland, InCore said. Banks outsource resource-intensive areas such as IT and the back office in order to concentrate on key areas of their business and save costs, InCore added. As a service provider, the bank needs to make customers’ data secure and available at all times. NetApp storage solutions provide InCore the confidence that its data will be readily available when needed and that the bank has the flexibility to fine-tune its tiered storage infrastructure, InCore said. With minimal disruption to the bank’s existing IT infrastructure and processes, NetApp allows InCore to focus its resources and energy on continuing to move its business forward, InCore added.

InCore Bank has deployed a NetApp FAS3000 system to centrally manage its transaction platform “Legando” and other business-critical applications, according to NetApp, an unified storage solutions provider. The bank also uses NetApp MetroCluster data protection software to replicate data synchronously between remote sites, to reduce the chance of data loss in the event of a disruption, the company said. In addition, the NetApp unified storage system functions as an “unification engine” that simultaneously supports Fibre Channel and IP (Internet Protocol) storage area networks (SANs) and network-attached storage (NAS), allowing InCore to achieve high levels of storage consolidation while increasing its overall storage utilization, NetApp added.

InCore Bank also replaced its tape backup solution with two mirrored FAS3000 systems, NetApp said. The results are lower storage costs and efficient use of storage capacity because the bank has reduced the amount of data saved to tape, and eliminated a large amount of duplicate backup data, the company said. NetApp Snapshot technology also allows online data backup within seconds and disaster recovery within minutes instead of hours and days, it added.

NetApp’s solutions are designed for simpler management and lower outlay costs, as well as higher data availability, which translates directly into bottom-line payoffs, especially for a company like InCore Bank, which relies on innovative technology to manage important customer data, NetApp said.
