Seagate is now shipping its mainstream desktop hard drive. With 1TB of capacity on two disks, Seagate’s Barracuda 7200.12 HD, a 3.5-inch 7200-RPM drive features an areal density of 329 Gigabits per square inch to provide capacity, performance and reliability for PCs, desktop RAID and personal external storage.
ATTO Technology released its 8-Gb Fibre Channel-to-SAS/SATA RAID Storage Controller. The latest addition to the ATTO FastStream RAID Storage Controller line, FastStream SC 8500 is an independent external RAID Storage Controller that provides 8-Gb Fibre Channel host connectivity to multiple tiers of low-cost, off-the-shelf SAS/SATA disk storage enclosures. The FastStream SC 8500, well-suited for mid-range storage solutions, provides up to 1400 MB/sec. access to data while providing parity RAID protection to multiple tiers of disk enclosures.
At MacWorld this week, G-Technology introduced a new family of external drives based on 2.5” solid state drive (SSD) technology – the G-DRIVE mini SSD (120GB and 250GB) and the RAID 0/1 G-RAID mini SSD (250GB and 500GB). As high-performance, plug-and-play storage devices, they are ideal for extreme users who capture, offload and edit digital content in challenging remote environments. Because the drives have no moving parts, each drive can withstand extreme shock up to 1500Gs and can endure higher altitudes, vibration and temperatures when compared to traditional hard drive-based solutions.
