Cablevision upgrades its free online security services

Jan 17 -- Cablevision Systems Corp. announced Tuesday a major upgrade to the free online security services the company makes available to its Optimum Online customers, to help protect against the growing number of online threats that can jeopardize privacy and diminish PC performance. Available immediately for download through the Optimum.net consumer Web portal, Cablevision is offering CA's Internet Security Suite Plus 2008 as a value-added benefit to Optimum Online customers.

The enhanced security software helps protect Optimum Online customers from online threats, including viruses, spyware, spam and phishing, while providing enhanced parental controls and data backup capabilities, Cablevision of Bethpage, New York said.

The security software package, which has a retail value of US$ 69.99, provides users with comprehensive Internet security and data protection. The software includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, personal firewall, anti-spam, anti-phishing and parental controls, as well as data backup and transfer capabilities. The suite provides advanced protection from viruses, hackers, spyware and spam, while ensuring important files, photos, music and PC settings are safe and conveniently backed-up should they need to be restored or transferred to a new PC.

Cablevision Systems is an entertainment and telecommunications company. Its cable television operations serve more than 3 million households in the New York metropolitan area. The company's advanced telecommunications offerings include its iO: Interactive Optimum digital television, Optimum Online high-speed Internet, Optimum Voice digital voice-over-cable, and its Optimum Lightpath integrated business communications services.

Cablevision's Rainbow Media Holdings LLC operates several successful programming businesses, including AMC, IFC, WE and other national and regional networks. In addition to its telecommunications and programming businesses, Cablevision owns Madison Square Garden and its sports teams, the New York Knicks, Rangers and Liberty. The company also operates New York's Radio City Music Hall, and owns and operates Clearview Cinemas.

In addition to giving Optimum Online customers the ability to go really fast on the Internet, Cablevision wants to make sure that they have the tools at their disposal to go safe as well, Cablevision said. The addition of this enhanced Internet security suite from CA is yet another value-added benefit for Cablevision customers that demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction and providing the best possible high-speed Internet Experience, the company said.

Optimum Online customers interested in obtaining the free software can find it at the security section of the Optimum Online consumer Web portal. Users requesting the software will receive through their Optimum Online e-mail instructions on how to download and install the security suite, as well as the license key to activate the product and receive periodic updates as they become available.

Optimum Online has provided free security services to customers for the past three years. While Optimum Online has always provided anti-virus, personal firewall and parental control capabilities, this important security software update also includes anti-spyware, anti-spam, anti-phishing, data back-up and transfer, and more advanced parental controls.

Optimum Online is a broadly deployed Internet service for the home, and is increasingly chosen by small businesses as well. Optimum Online continues to lead the nation in market acceptance, providing service to nearly half of the homes passed by Cablevision's fiber optic network, Cablevision said.
